Budget Stand mixer-what you need to know
Stand mixer-budget models: Price VS. features
Stand mixers are generally a luxury kitchen appliance. Everyone seems to have the basics: a stove, fridge, microwave, and generally a Toaster. Blender is a specialty apparatus with attendance limited to kitchen for those who love to bake.
As anyone who has shopped for stand mixers can tell you, not only are they a specialty kitchen appliance, they tend to be expensive!
Also budget mixer can be quite expensive with prices start around $ 50, depending on where you buy and the discount you can find. If you are considering a purchase of a budget stand mixer … If you are considering a budget priced mixer, there is one important point that you need to consider … No lower priced mixer will compare with a high end mixer. Just as you would not compare a Kia car to a Maserati automobile, it is futile to compare a budget price (under $ 75) mixer to either a mid range (from $ 75 to $ 175) or a high end mixer (over $ 175).
While in theory, they perform the same tasks–in mixers, they stand on the ground and mix the dough or Batter and cars, they run on four decks and transport people from place to place–in fact, let’s just say that in practice, there is no comparison!
Having said that, there are several good reasons to consider buying a budget priced stand mixer:
You are a passionate Baker and you already have a higher prices stand mixer, but you want to use one for your vacation home and you know everything you need to make mix cookies for grandchildren. A budget mixer may be right for you; you live in very tight living quarters and you will not be able to store stand mixer on the kitchen counter at all times. A lightweight, budget priced mixer may be right for you; you need a stand mixer for a one shot deal, as well as bake Cupcakes for a friend’s wedding. A budget mixer may be right for you; you are not sure whether you should use a stand mixer enough to justify a higher end model. By all means try a budget mixer first and then, if you use it enough, move to a more expensive model with more bells and whistles.
If you have decided to buy a budget stand mixer is meaningful, here are some things to consider …
ONE-on low end, perhaps the available machines are a combination stand/hand mixer.
With a tripod/hand blender combo, you have the option to remove the mixing fan leaders–including the motor and beaters and remove it from the booth, a hand mixer.
Two-even with budget mixer, there may be limited options in accessories. I have seem some models where only the beaters and dough hooks, and still others who have only beaters.
Three-in many cases, these mixers are pretty easy. While this may be an advantage if you need to store it somewhere else, or if you plan to carry it often, it can be a drawback when mixing. Of course, you should carefully monitor all operational stand mixer, but it can be particularly important with more lightweight models. With your mixer dance of the counter and on the floor can be a real disaster!
Four-budget mixer often have fewer mixing fan speeds than on 10-12 speed offered in more expensive models. If I can remember I have recently seen them with 6 or 7 mixing speeds.
Five-Finally, budget priced stand mixers have far less powerful engines than higher end models. To give you an idea, executed budget mixer motors in the range of 200-300 Watts while the more expensive models can run in the range of 350-550.
The power of the engine relates directly to how effectively a mixer can work with heavy dough.
Realistically, the budget is likely to be able to handle cookie mixing dough, but nothing much thicker than. Many of them cannot handle the bread dough, and in fact can not yet in a position to a dough hook.
Gluten free bread dough, which tend to have a much wetter than normal bread dough consistency, it may be possible, but I would not buy a mixer until I know that someone has been able to use it for this purpose.
SHORTCUT-Reading online reviews can be very useful for gleaning this type of information.
In conclusion, budget priced stand mixers never compare directly to their higher prices cousins, but they might be a smart choice for anyone who understand their limitations.
